{our marriage is like a really good burger}

Last night my husband made home made turkey burgers for dinner. From scratch. I e-mailed him from work yesterday and told him I was craving a good burger and so he told me what to buy and a good burger I had.

He mixed the meat and added just the right ingredients:

I was his helper and chopped up all the goodies that go with the burger and made sure we had some good wine:

When you are starving, waiting is the hardest part. Even Norman was sitting in the kitchen watching Jason put these amazing burgers together.

Let's just say that when it was all said and done, these were some of the juciest, most amazing burgers I have ever had. Not to mention made with love by the man I love most.

So how is our marriage like a good burger?
(silly I know)

1) We have just the right amount of sweet, salty and spicy in the mix. We balance each other out and compromise on things so that we each get a little flavor of the things we love in life

2) We listen to each others needs. I know a burger is a silly "need" but he knew how much I was craving a good burger so he decided to be the one to meet that need for me. This concept goes for bigger needs we have in life and I don't mean just material things.

3) We help and serve each other. My husband was the master chef in the kitchen last night so I was his helper. In everything we help each other.

4) Waiting. This was probably the hardest part but most important. You can't rush a good burger or it either won't be cooked good or won't taste right. Just like I waited patiently for that burger, we waited for each other. I didn't rush into a relationship just because I didn't want to be single anymore. Instead we waited for that person that adds just the right amount of flavor. That person who compliments me.

There is no such thing as a "perfect" marriage because there is no such thing as a perfect person. However, I love our quirks and I love how well we love each other.

It was a good burger and I'm looking forward to many more!

Happy Friday!

why i love carpooling

taken via iphone

Since we live so close to the city now my husband and I carpool most days. After work yesterday I swung by my husbands office to pick him up and saw him waiting there for me with a big smile on his face.
Handsome as can be.
It made me think of what a wonderful man he is. I internally began to admire all the things about my husband that made me fall in love with him.
Honest. Hard Working. MoTiVaTeD. Funny. Generous. But most of all for how he loves me.
I was beaming the whole way home.

Wall Stories

I love walls with lots and lots of pictures, frames and decor... they tell a story about ones style, personality and life.
Here are a few spaces that inspire me....

 I have some empty walls in my home and am slowly collecting little pieces that will soon become my own wall stories.
Rather than just buying things to fill the spaces, I've decided to collect things that are memorable for us. I want my home to be a place that surrounds my husband and I with sweet memories <3
What inspires you?

{Fall is near}

IMG_0408 IMG_0412 IMG_0416 IMG_0415 IMG_0410

We had beautiful weather this weekend. There was a light breeze that made the leaves in the trees shuffle. It sounded and felt so much like fall! My husband and I went on a 1.5 hour walk around our neighborhood last night. I had to wear a light sweater because it was so breezy. This made me really excited for fall. I love summer but I am excited for scarves, layers, boots and hot cider by the fireplace.

What do you love about the fall season?

Sweet Saturdays

My husband and I went to visit my parents today and my mother gave me fresh flowers and vegetables from her amazing garden....

Then we did some yard work. I planted a few pretty flowers in our front yard....

Now we are just lounging around at home....

(Inspiration for chalkboard canvas is from here)

{Friday Fashion Loves Guest Post!}

Hey All Things New readers, I'm Nikki from Fashions on the Fly and I'm super excited to be hanging out here for the day to share the fashion items I've been obsessing over this month!

It hasn't been easy to pick my favorites because there are SO many things right now that are just amazing! Let's get to the list

All items are available on Lyst
  • I have been LOVING anything that is sparkly. Sparkles just make my face light up and shine. I'm like a kid in a candy store and I can't wipe the smile off my face that day. Plus I feel sparkles can be dressed up for a fancy night or can be fun for a day with the girls.
  • My next obsession has been polka dots! I've been experiencing at home with mixing patterns and I feel you can't forget about the polka dots. Polka dots and strips, polka dots and flowers, polka dots and just about anything.
  • White and gold jewelry is something that my accessory pile is lacking. I'm really loving the bracelets that have leather and metal mixed in these colors. I feel they can complete an outfit with a classic feel.
  • I've been a massive huge gigantic fan of Marc by Marc Jacobs watches and lately I've been loving all the silver round faced watches with fun little color accents.
  • Last but not least the patterned pants. Love love love. I feel they make an outfit fun and you never have a dull moment while wearing them.

It's been fun guys, don't forget to stop by over at my blog and say hi! Denise, thanks for letting me crash at your place for the day.

Thanks Nikki for all the adorable August picks! I want to buy them ALL!

Make sure you checkout her awesome blog!

Have a wonderful weekend!

{A thought for today}

It's not quite the weekend yet, but we are halfway there!

Just because it's a "work" day doesn't mean you can't do something fun! After work today I plan on going on a nice long run with my sister. We are training for a 1/2 marathon and I always have fun when we train together. I'm really looking forward to it!

So be silly and laugh today! Be sure to make some time for something you enjoy!

Happy Wednesday!

Color Moods

IMG_9986 Untitled-1 IMG_0006 Untitled-3 IMG_9975
Top: Ann Taylor
Necklace & Watch: Kenneth Cole
Bracelets: GAP & Urban Outfitters
Jeans: Paige Denim
Sandals: Target

Apparently my color moods don't only reflect in what I am wearing, but also in my home decor. Currently sitting on my nook table is this lovely ensemble. The colors of my outfit matched perfectly. I noticed the similarities after uploading these pictures to my computer.

The same way accessories complete a simple outfit, so do little touches like this cute Anthropologie salt & pepper shaker when decorating your home. I love all the little details.

We are expecting really HOT weather this week! I'm really loving summer. Fresh flowers, picnics, ice cream, long days, evening walks and just the simple pleasure of a warm sunny day.

This summer has been good to me

Summer Dress & Empty Walls

IMG_0082 IMG_0071
Dress: H&M last summer
Sandals: Diane Von Furstenberg
Purse: Thrifted

This dress has been in my closet and unworn for a year. Basically since this post in 2011. I actualy really like this dress so I'm not sure why I haven't worn it for so long.

But anyways, what I really want to talk about is that wall behind me that has a mirror and shelf propped up against it. I eventually want to get rid of those items but need them to fill the space until I figure out what to do back there. My husband was thinking a wall to wall ceiling high book shelf.

The stairs to the upstairs are on the other side of that wall and I was thinking of cutting an arched open way so you can access the stairs directly from the living room.

What do you think? Any ideas of what you would do?
I have lots of empty walls that I need more decor ideas for!

{Easy DIY Iced Coffee Recipe}

Yes, I'm a coffee lover.
Iced coffee to be exact.

For all you iced coffee lovers; it can be made at home.
And best of all, it's easy.

Prep Work
1. Brew an extra strong pot of drip coffee. When I say extra strong, think 3 times stronger than you normally would!

2. Put brewed coffee into ice trays and let them freeze into coffee ice cubes. Put the rest of the drip coffee in the fridge to cool. Using coffee ice cubes prevents the drink from being diluted as the ice melts.

This is what the coffee ice cubes look like when frozen:

*This prep work can be done in the evening so that it is ready to go by morning.

Mix it together
1. Fill a tall glass to the top with the coffee ice cubes and fill the glass halfway with the cooled drip coffee

2.Add syrup to tasteUntitled-2

3. Fill the remainder of the glass with milkUntitled-3

4. Stir and enjoy! Yum!

*For stronger coffee, add more drip coffee and less milk
*If you don't like it too strong, use regular ice cubes instead of coffee ice cubes
*If you like it sweeter, add sugar & whip cream!
*I like mine sugar free and non-fat so I use sugar free vanilla syrup and nonfat milk.

So why not? Go ahead, try it! You won't be disappointed :)
