Two Christmas Trees!

Look at the smile on Charlie's face! I am convinced he already loves Christmas as much as I do :)

Something about the Christmas Seasons brings out the child in us.
I get all giddy the night before we get our tree and wake up super early because I can't sleep from the excitement!
We normally get our tree the Saturday right after Thanksgiving but the weekends have been busy so Jason and I decided to wait another weekend.
The week went by soooo slow... I could hardly stand it!
When Saturday morning rolled around we were excited not only that the day had finally arrived, but also because there was still some snow left on the ground.
Christmas tree hunt + snow = a very happy me!
This has to be one of my favorite family traditions!
I literally look forward to Christmas every year and the day we get our tree and set it up.
This year we met for breakfast with family before heading out to the tree farm.
We went to two different tree farms because we had to find the perfect tree!
I like to know I've seen them all before I make a decision!
It was a very cold and sunny 25 degrees but that just made it all the more "Christmasy."
After several hours of walking around the farms we finally found a lovely tree and right next to it was the cutest little tree that we got for Charlie's nursery.
I know Charlie is only three months old but he has been staring at the lights and ornaments on the tree ever since we set it up.
Christmas is my favorite and I just know it will be his too!
Next Christmas Charlie will be over a year and most likely walking.
I can only imagine the fun we will have next year when he can help us pick out the tree he wants!
My heart is so glad

three months old

We woke up to snow this morning!
What a perfect way to kick off December and the Christmas season!

Charlie and I spent the morning watching the snow fall in our pajamas.
I've had Christmas music playing non stop in the house since Thanksgiving and the fire has been roaring in the fireplace for much longer than that.
Snow was the only thing missing on a day like this!

After Charlies morning bath I decided to capture a few photos of him - that's what we do right?!
Take a million photos of our babies!?
I cannot believe he will be three months old tomorrow!
I know every month I say I cannot believe how fast he is growing, but really, he is growing so fast!
I was comparing the pictures I have been taking over the months and he has grown so much!
He is fattening up and getting lots of little rolls on his legs, arms and tummy which are so irresistible.
He's a strong, healthy boy and we are so grateful for that!

Tomorrow we are going on our annual Christmas Tree hunt!
See my posts from previous years here & here.
We have been going every year since I was a little girl and I am so looking forward to it.
Christmas will be extra special this year with our little Charlie boy to share it with!
I'm sure hoping the snow will stick around for a little while!
 (the snow this morning!)

Happy weekend & happy three months to our sweet boy!

two months old

Our Charles is two months old today!
I can harldy believe it!
Every week I can see how fast he is growing.
It is bittersweet: I'm excited for him to walk and talk but I'm sad that time flies so fast.
He is still as happy as the day he was born.
Charles likes to give us lots of big smiles and he loves to cuddle.
I can kiss his face all over a thousand times and he never cries or gets annoyed.
He is now sleeping 5-7 hours at night (we are sooo happy about this)
We love our sleep around here and I'm glad he does too!
He is also starting to "baby talk" which is the most adorable thing ever.
He has become so curious and loves to study the pictures on our walls or anything that moves.
It's been windy and rainy in Portland and I noticed he likes to sit and look outside at the sky and trees.
But the thing that makes my heart completely melt is when he looks me in the eyes and gives me the biggest grins ever.
My heart could burst.
Charles is our biggest blessing.
We love you sweet boy!

Baby's first Halloween

These are a few photos from a little Halloween party we had at our house last night.
Charles is still too small to go trick or treating so we just handed out candy and enjoyed a night in.
I made this Dalmation costume for Charles because I couldn't find anything in his size!
I used all white clothing and a fabric pen and simply just drew different size spots all over the front and back.
He's the cutest little Dalmation we've ever seen :)

I hope you had a fun Halloween too and Happy Friday!

It's been a long while since I've done an outfit post!
Given that fall is here and the cool weather has graced us, I can now wear my favorite clothes: sweaters, boots, coats, hats and scarves.
We enjoyed a beautiful 60 degree fall weekend and spent most of it outside.
I can't say this enough: Portland is sooooo beautiful this time of year!
We went to a few vintage shops and I found the cutest vintage coat.
I can't wait to share it in a future outfit post.

Happy Tuesday!

how becoming a mom has changed me

There are many things I said I wanted to do when I would become a mother; teach him to love the Lord, protect and take the best care of him as I possibly can, teach him to walk and talk and excel in school, never say anything that would hurt him, be extra patient, breastfeed for at least six months because breast milk is the best thing for him, spend as much time with him as possible, give him my undivided attention when we are together, etc.

Every year I make new resolutions and plan to stick to them.
I remember my resolution this year was to eat super healthy; I didn't always stick to this resolution and still can't say that I do.
However, this is totally different.
I am a mother.
These promises I made to myself to be the best mother I can be are things I work at every single moment.
These are not things I want to give up on and so every day I need to remind myself of what type of mother I want to be.
What will my boy remember when he is older?
What example am I leading by?
Life is no longer just about me. My life revolves around him.
If we are both hungry, he eats first.
If we are both tired, he gets put to sleep first. Even if it takes hours to calm him down into a deep sleep.
If I need to clean the house and do laundry but he needs to be held and cuddled, the chores can wait.
If all of my friends are going out but my baby needs me, I will stay with him and not have any regrets.
When I look at Charles I am filled with joy. Only someone who is a mother can truly relate to this kind of love.

Life is more meaningful and my every decision is more purposeful.
My sacrifices are greater but the reward of a happy, healthy baby brings so much blessing to our home.

I have had to give up so much but do it with a happy heart.
When I wake up in the morning, I no longer think of myself but rather what my baby needs and what we can do as a family.

Before baby my husband and I had the freedom to just get up and go whenever we wanted.
Now we find ourselves choosing activities that we can include Charles in and many times, if he can't come along, then we don't go.
We love being a family.

The moment Charles came into the world, I became a mother forever and life has never been so full.
I love how I've changed.
I love the new level parenthood has taken my relationship with my husband.
I just simply love everything about motherhood.

How gorgeous is my sister!

Whenever Autumn comes around I can't seem to stop talking about how much I love it.
Earlier this week I went on a little lunch date with my sister.
After lunch we couldn't help but roam around the city admiring all the beauty this time of year brings.

The leaves on the trees all over the city are changing colors and pumpkin spice lattes have appeared in every coffee shop I go to.
Autumn in Portland is breathtaking and I fall in love with it again and again each year.
(see last year in this post here)
Autumn also means Thanksgiving and Christmas (yay!) are just around the corner!
Time to bring out the boots, hats & scarves; the cool weather is here to stay and I love it!

What are some of your favorite things about this season?

Fluffy Banana Pancakes

Saturday mornings call for fluffy pancakes......

2 small mashed bananas plus 1 extra for slicing on top
2 cups buttermilk (if you don't have buttermilk, regular milk works just fine)
2 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
3 tablespoons melted butter
1/4 cup sugar
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flower
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
3 teaspoons baking powder

1.) In a large bowl combine milk, mashed bananas, butter, eggs & vanilla extract. Whisk together.
2.) In another bowl combine all the dry ingredients: flower, sugar, salt, baking soda & baking powder.
3.) Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix thoroughly. If the batter is too thick you can add extra milk.
4.) Heat a non-stick pan or griddle and use butter on the surface to avoid sticking.
5.) Cook both sides until golden brown.
6.) Garnish with sliced bananas and top with your favorite syrup.

Painted Mason Jar Autumn DIY

I love decorating for the seasons!
Yesterday I had some free time and worked on a few little DIY projects.
Here is a super easy DIY project that will bring a little touch of Autumn to your home.

Mason Jar
Paint Brush
Metallics all purpose paint (any color you choose)
Festive Autumn flowers/leaves/branches, etc.

Below is an up close picture of the paint I used.
I really like this brand/type of paint because it doesn't drip, it goes on easy and it dries really fast.
It also comes in multiple colors.

1.) Apply two layers of paint to the mason jar. Allow each layer to dry before applying the next coat.
2.) Wrap yarn around top of mason jar
3.) Fill with decorative flowers/leaves/branches, etc.

Happy Crafting!
